‘I received an appointment letter for a job that I really wanted and breathed a sigh of relief that my prayers were finally answered but things got complicated when I underwent medical examinations at the Occupational Health and Safety Institute in Kitwe,’ said Capt. Paul Kakana (Rtd), Chief Security Officer at ME Longteng Zambia in Kalumbila District.
Capt. Kakana narrated that he was found with hernia after examinations at OHSI and was immediately recommended for a correctable surgery.
“I felt that OHSI was too harsh on me because I was going to lose my job opportunity but they insisted that I undergo a surgery, not knowing that they had advised my Company Management that my condition was correctable and would heal after six weeks, added Capt. Kakana.
He said that after the successful surgery at Maina Soko Medical Centre, he now feels healthier and energetic than he felt 10 years ago adding that he would have died if he hadn’t undergone medical exams at OHSI.
“I didn’t know that I had hernia, I just used to experience serious back and abdominal pains all the time, gaining weight around the waist, swollen glands below my belly and thought that it was normal but was getting weaker and weaker every day,” narrated Capt. Kakana.
He said he was shocked to learn that ME Longteng Zambia Ltd had kept his job appointment and waited for him to heal, a situation he described as amazing and rare.
